Study on performance analysis of Holstein Friesian cattle under intensive management at Government Dairy Farm, Pishin, Balochistan

To study the productive and reproductive traits of Holstein Friesian cattle raised under intensive management system at Government Dairy Farm, Pishin, Balochistan, the performance records available at the government farm for last ten years (1998 to 2007) were explored to acquire data required for this study. Birth weight was highest (33.05 plus minus 0.61 kg) in cows at 6th lactation, closely followed by 5th, 4th and 3rd lactation cows with average birth weights of 32.86 plus minus 0.31, 32.39 plus minus 0.73 and 32.45 plus minus 0.68 kg, respectively. The birth weight of Holstein Friesian cattle at 1st lactation was minimum (31.31 plus minus 0.63 kg) which slightly increased to 31.95 plus minus 0.45 leg in 2nd lactation cattle. The average birth weight over six lactation for five year records was 32.34 plus minus 0.41 kg. Statistically, the differences in birth weight between lactation were significant (P less than 0.05).
