Effect of weed-crop competition on growth and yield of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.)
2007
Shahzad, M.
The experiment was laid out in RCBD with four replications having net plot size measuring, 1.8mx5m. The crop was sown in November with a single row hand drill in 30 cm apart rows using seed rate of 25 kg per ha. Plant to plant distance of 10 cm was maintained by thinning extra plants. The fertilizer was applied at the rate of 57 kg N per ha and 25 kg P2O5 per ha. Sources of N and P were urea and diammonium phosphate (DAP), respectively. Whole of P and half of N was side dressed with a single row hand drill at sowing while remaining half of nitrogen was broadcasted at the time of 2nd irrigation. Crop was harvested on 4th April 2007. Maximum density and dry weight of P. minor, A. arvensis, C. arvensis, M. denticulata and B. campestris were recorded in plots with competition through out the season and minimum was observed in weed-crop competition for 40 days after emergence. Maximum density and, dry weight of C. album was found in plots where weed-crop competition continued up
