The notion, methodology and the purpose of evidence based veterinary medicine and practice (EBVM, EBVP); Acupuncture as the integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); Theoretical fundaments of TCM; Contemporary view on physiological aspects of TCM; Acupuncture system – energy-informational network and the holistic biophysical approach; The system of energy meridians/channels in human and animals; Acupuncture points – their nature, method of affecting the a.p. and the effect of their stimulation; The selection of appropriate acupuncture points in the course of pain treatment; The clinical guidelines and procedures in the acupuncture treatment of pain; The results of clinical trials on the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of acute and chronic pain; The necessity of regulated and accredited TCM education and continuing education of veterinary acupuncturists; The need that other veterinary surgeons get acquainted with veterinary acupuncture, its efficacy and risk factors; Veterinary acupuncture is in practice for a long time, however it requires further fundamental research and clinical trials, its evaluation and valuation through evidence based approach.
