Reported in this paper is an experimental investigation of the efficiency of various methods for tassel removal from the female component in the production of seed corn. The investigations were conducted in Vojvodina (Serbia), during production season 2010. Three different hybrids were tested, and comparisons were made between the manual and mechanized tassel removal with manual correction. Production conditions and effects were analyzed for these two methods. The efficiency of both methods, especially the mechanized one, is predominantly influenced by the production conditions and features of seed corn hybrid. Mechanized removal with manual correction was performed with the efficiency ranging from 130 to 170 h/ha. Mechanized tassel cutting in a single traverse, with manual correction (pulling), achieves approximately 2 to 2,5 times higher productivity than the strictly manual method. The mechanized tassel cutting or pulling achieves an average productivity of 0,9 ha /h or a labour consumption of 1,1 h/ha. Manual corrections involving tassel pulling after mechanized cutting were performed on all hybrids in four turns. The time required for manual correction averaged between 13 to 18 h/ha, which, on aggregate, equals 55 to 65 h/ha for four turns.
