Artificial drying of timber means using of sophisticated, also very expensive installations. Complexity of drying technology, very high energy consumption (heat and electricity), high damage risks of very variable material, are factors that should be considered when the importance of this process is discussed. There is a little data in the literature about cost of drying, which is important value for every company, no matter what is the purpose of dried timber. Local conditions have great impact on variable drying costs. This paper is attempt to find out the cost of conventional timber drying in Serbia, based on literature data and personal experience. Given data can be useful for all companies dealing with wood drying.
