Based on legislative act on food safety, the act of food safety control, and the programme of statistical medical studies, food control is being continuously monitored, the data are collected and safety of food is followed - up. The results of the study cover the period between 1997 and 2006. Twenty two food products were studied. The data included the number of food products examined for physical and chemical properties and the number of products that did not quality as safe, categorized according to the cause of their rejection as unsafe. The results of the study demonstrate the increased number of food products examined for their physical and chemical properties. Furthermore, the number of unsafe food products decreased. The most common causes of unsafe home made food products were inadequate composition of food and prohibited additives.
