Protected areas contribute to the conservation and enhancement of the environment, biodiversity, longevity and quality of natural resources and landscapes, geo-heritage phenomena, the space as the architectural-urbanistic category, etc. In Serbia protected areas occupy 6.19 % of the territory or 547,176.00 ha. According to the percentage of protected areas, Serbia is one of the countries with a medium degree of protection. The State Enterprise for Forest Management Srbijašume is the leading enterprise in Serbia in the field of forest, hunting grounds and protected areas management. It is the manager of 91 protected areas, covering 244,573.56 ha or 44.7% of the total protected area in Serbia. The largest protected areas are covered with forest ecosystems, as the basis of the healthy environment and the key factor of its conservation and enhancement.
