Seven species comprising the genus Paulownia Sieb. et Zucc and their bioecological characteristics are surveyed. They are: Paulownia tomentosa (Thunberg) Steudel., Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu, Paulownia catalpifolia T. Gong ex D. Y. Hong, Paulownia fortunei (Seemann) Hemsley in F. B. Forbes and Hemsley, Paulownia kawakamii T. Ito, Paulownia fargesii Franchet and Paulownia taiwaniana T. W. Hu et H. J. Chang. Three of the above species are cultivated in Serbia: Paulownia tomentosa, Paulownia elongata and Paulownia fortunei. The most and the longest cultivated species in Serbia is Paulownia tomentosa, but primarily for ornamental purposes, for urban green spaces. The cultivation of Paulownia elongata and Paulownia fortunei has recently started in forest plantations.
