Brucellosis is one of the most widespread natural habitat infections of zoonose character. Cause are bacteria (little coco germs) of the genus Brucella, which includes six species of different virulence and the affinity for host. The problem of controlling disease transmissible to humans (zoonoses) by direct or indirect contact, as well as through the introduction of food of animal origin (mainly milk and dairy products that are not pasteurized), is a priority in the work of veterinary services in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to estimates the diagnostic test are taken in about 70% of the population of small ruminants, primarily sheep, after when is found 2007 existence of foci of the disease and affected about 60% of the country. 75 000 animals were destroyed and direct damage is caused to the budget of country in the amount of about 7.5 million Euros. Cause agent is confirmed in the referent laboratory in France as Brucella melitensis biovar 2. Given the size of the country, the dispersion of seropositive animals, herd size, and particularly on ways of animal keeping and the local population habits, Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed its determination to apply a single model of control and prevention of diseases across the country. The data are presented based on the knowledge of: the presence of the disease in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina; possible ways for disease spreading; the degree of endangerment of human health; necessary approvals for the selection of a single control strategy and control of brucellosis in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
