In this paper the activity levels (in Bq/kg) of 137Cs, 40K, 226Ra and 232Th in moss samples and its substrate collected in the Sokobanja area (on localities on Ozren and Lepterija) and Banja Jošanica in mid May 2009 are presented. The lowest level of 137Cs was measured in moss growing on Ozren near the waterfalls (2.50 Bq/kg) and the highest was measured close to the Vodomar spring (Lepterija) (49.3 Bq/kg). Activity levels of natural radionuclides in moss and its substrate collected in the Sokobanja area were: 40K from 25.0 Bq/kg to 255 Bq/kg, i.e. from 99.0 Bq/kg to 263 Bq/kg, 226Ra from 4.50 Bq/kg to 20.0 Bq/kg, i.e. from 15.1 Bq/kg to 19.5 Bq/kg and 232Th from 4.88 Bq/kg to 28.4 Bq/kg, i.e. from 9.84 Bq/kg to 19.6 Bq/kg. Activity levels of 137Cs in moss collected in Banja Jošanica were from 132 to 197 Bq/kg and thus higher than in moss from Sokobanja. Activity levels of natural radionuclides in moss from Banja Jošanica were: 40K from 169 Bq/kg to 251 Bq/kg, 226Ra from 3.30 Bq/kg to 12.0 Bq/kg and 232Th from 5.53 Bq/kg to 13.0 Bq/kg and are similar to activity levels obtained for these radionuclides in moss from Sokobanja.
