In the program of actions accepted at the international conference of United Nations on protection of environment and steady development (Rio de Janeiro 1992), the necessity of development of agricultural amelioration for struggle with a drought, soil degradation, desertification is underlined [7]. In a droughty zone of a southeast of the Russian Federation in the heaviest conditions of dry steppe and semi-desert, where the agricultural crops suffer from dry winds and dusty storms, the important role in struggle with desertification is played by the positive anthropogenous influence expressed in creation of protective wood plantings, which became the integral component of a steppe landscape and, besides meliorative role, have aesthetic importance. The purpose of researches - to find methods of creation of steady protective plantings on the basis of experiences and modeling. For this purpose it was supposed to establish, what wood species in various forest vegetation conditions of Kalmykia can have the best prospect of growth and development, because frequently at planting of forests belts the necessity of creation of conditions for normal growth of wood plants was not taken into account.
