Breeding material and varieties are selected on the base of the variety of a perennial fodder rye Derzhavinskaya 29 (DZ 29), that is a reliable donor of stability to diseases. Genetically improved DZ 29 is created by a 5-fold selection at spring sowing by unvernalized seeds. A hybrid Gk-834 is a result of crossing between DZ 29 and the varieties Talovskaya 12 and Chulpan. The hybrid K-123 is a resistant form of Gk-834. Talovskaya 12 is a population selected after sowing the variety among the both hybrids and is a result of their open pollination. The named samples posses a varying of plants according to their stability and keep it at present time. It is shown that stability to stem mildew is inherited according to a monogeneous dominant type. It is supposed that such type of inheritance is not due to 1 effective gene, but to a block of chained genes of stability, each of which supplies stability to a great number of fungus population. It is possible to grow plants with a different level of disease resistance within 1 variety, so it is not necessary to use a mixture of varieties with specific and nonspecific resistance. It is concluded that using of DZ 29 in rye breeding is a sure method of genetic plant protection.
