A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the influence of soil properties on the adsorption of the herbicide atrazine by 5 soil and sediment materials differing in their physical and chemical properties. Batch equilibrium technique was used to study the adsorption of atrazine in soil and sediment materials. Organic matter was found to be the most important single factor affecting atrazine adsorption. The amount of clay present in soils was also important and well associated with the adsorption of the herbicide
