In this paper increasing of accuracy and reliability of the horizontal penetrometer is described. The horizontal penetrometer is used for continual measurement of soil resistance. At the present various types of horizontal penetrometers are used. Five year ago in the Department of transport and handling - Technical faculty of Agricultural University in Nitra a new type of the horizontal penetrometer was developed. During of the exploitation of this new type of horizontal penetrometer some troubles was observed. For this reason essential parts of the penetrometer have beer modified as knife, force transducer and recording unit.
