Public policies impact to the agriculture competitiveness in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Although agricultural and foodstuff products export is increasing each year, trade deficit in BH is still very high. Outgoing message of this situation is very clear – competitive capacity of the sector have urgent need to be upgraded, both, on macro level (quality of business environment) and on micro level (manufacturing performances). The aim of the research conducted was to identify total influence of implemented set of public policies to competitive capacity of the sector in BH. This is the way to evaluate social status of the sector, meaning level of producers’ incentives in upgrading and developing of the production. Research is focused to selected productions with high level of export potential and/or to one which are extremely significant for life quality level in rural areas (plum, apple, paprika, tomato, corn, milk and lamb meet). Impact of implemented public policies has been verified by, the most often used in literature set of sector protection indicators (level of effective and nominal protection – NPR, EPR, and level subventions to producers SPR). Besides, to verify level of sectors capability to survive and to contribute further economy development very popular indicator – „domestic resources costs“ (DRC) was calculated for each production.
