Qualidade física do solo em sistemas de preparo convencional e plantio direto em latossolo do cerrado.

RESUMO: Menor desenvolvimento inicial em plantas de soja (safra 2004/2005) foi observado em plantio direto (PD em comparação ao plantio convencional (PC) em área experimental da Embrapa Cerrados. Diferenças visuais no sistema radicular sugeriram adensamento superficial no PD. Nesse local, avaliaram-se as alterações nos atributos físicos do solo relacionados aos sistemas de preparo e ao crescimento do milho cultivado, em sucessão à soja, na safra 2005/2006. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos completos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Atributos físico-hídricos do solo, intervalo hídrico ótimo (IHO), parâmetro S e índice de cone determinado a campo (IC campo) foram avaliados como indicadores da qualidade física do solo. Os sistemas de preparo diferenciaram-se significativamente na taxa de crescimento em altura, mas não quanto ao rendimento de grãos. O parâmetro S não foi sensível aos sistemas de manejo. O IC campo observado no PD foi significativamente superior ao do PC, principalmente nas camadas superficiais, comprovando a hipótese de maior resistência à penetração de raízes em PD. Contudo, os sistemas de manejo não se diferenciaram quanto aos valores de densidade do solo, mas sim quanto à água disponível e ao IHO. ABSTRACT: It was observed in a long-term experiment on soil tillage and fertilization carried out at Embrapa Cerrados slower growth of soybean (growing season 2004/2005) cultivated under no-till (PD) compared to conventional tillage (PC). Visual differences in the root morphology suggested that the top soil under no-till system was more compacted than under PC. Subsequently, it was evaluated in the same experiment, in a randomized complete block design with four replications, the effect of tillage treatment on soil physical attributes and the growth of maize cultivated in successes to soybean during the growing season 2005/2006. The soil physic attributes least limiting water range (IHO), S-parameter and cone index (IC campo) were evaluated to assess the physical quality. The effect of tillage systems was significant in relation to the growth rate but there was no difference regarding the grain yields. S-parameter did not differ between tillage systems. The IC campo observed in PD was significantly higher than in PC, particulary in the top layers, supporting the hypothesis that in PD there is more soil resistance to root growth. The management systems did not differ regarding the bulk density values, but differed in relation to the available water content and least limiting water range.
