In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented data on the origin of the Polesye horses is presented. A model standard of a typical Polesye horse was developed. There was realized an expedition study of the southern districts of Brest and Gomel regions in high-water bed of the Pripyat River. In the analyzed 11 farms there were found 10 stallions (studhorses) and 96 mares corresponding according to a complex traits to the developed standards: the average height at crest of mares - 140,1 +/- 0,27, oblique body length - 148,6 +/- 0,28, chest girth - 166,1 +/- 0,52, cannon bone girth - 17,95 +/- 0,05. Data on the diversity of economic use of Polesye horses in modem conditions and the reproductive traits was presented. Basic husbandries were determined. The main positions of the Program for maintaining the population of Polesye horses in the Republic of Belarus were presented.
