The production of economically efficient product of dairy cattle breeding depends a lot on cattle productivity. Increase in milk yields is a condition, which ensures efficient and stable activity of dairy branch and high competitive ability of its production both at national and foreign markets. In course of the research there was examined the experience of leading farms of the Republic of Belarus in achieving high production-economic indicators of activity. The present state and tendencies of development of dairy cattle breeding in Belarus was studied in general. With the help of statistical-economic methods of research, we have established the factors which influence average yearly milk yield of highly productive cows in a three-year period (2008–2010). The special place in development of highly productive dairy cattle breeding is occupied with forages. Their production growth is a major factor of effective development of branch because without constant increase of a feeding level in a combination with forage quality improvement, perfection of ration structure is impossible to reach steady rates of animal productivity growth.
