Investigation on Tolerance of commercial varieties of sugar beet to powdery mildew disease

Powdery mildew is a widespread disease in sugar beet growing areas in Iran. The damage of the disease is considerable. In order to evaluate resistance of the sugar beet varieties, an experiment was conducted with 9 treatments in a complete block design with six replications. In the end of July, all of genotypes were evaluated for Disease severity index(DSI). The results showed that DSI in genotypes No 6,2 and 7 was 25.76, 33.78 and 46.2 percent, respectively. Root yield in genotypes No 8,6 and 7 was 95.8, 91.5 and 90.85 ton/Ha respectively. Lower root yield was in genotype No 4 with 61.54 ton/ha and also this genotype had lower sugar content. High sugar content was in genotypes No 2,1 and 6 with 20.7,20.4 and 20.2 percent, respectively.
