Selection the best Suitable Stump heigh to minimize the felling residual
1987
Soleymanzadeh, Ebraheim
The main objective of this study was to evaluate the percentage of residues in the first stage of tree harvesting (felling) and to campare two different stump's height (common height and recommended height) as In order to carry out this projectJ in 1984, a total of 280 trees of hornbeam and beach (5:50) with 7 different diameter classes from 41 to 100 cm or more (basal diameter) were felled in Caspian forest (Galland Rood Forest Management Plan). The necessary measurement were made and follow~ng conclusion were drown: In a conparison between recommended stump height and cammon height, the first method has proved to be more economic. The rsults indicate that by using the recommended method when consid rin H D, the volume of unused residua decreased by 3.2 percent while the felling time in¬creased by 8 percent (H= stump height, D= Stump diameter). This could mean that, if we could apply the recommended method to all harvesting area in the Cas pain Forest each year we will be able to recover almost 40,000 to 45,000 cubic meter of first grade wood or we add about 90,000,000 Rls. to over income, while we will expend only 1,920,OOO Rls more each year as labor cost.
