Dynamics of cranberry tipworm Dasineura oxycoccana J. (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) in American large-fruited cranberry (Oxycocccus macrocarpus syn. Vaccinium macrocarpon (Ait.) Pers.) was studied in the north-east part of Latvia in 2010. The flying-out of D. oxycoccana occurred over the first ten-day period of June at the accumulated effective temperatures (AET) within the range of + 365 – 448°C, mostly under the influence of maximum temperatures. Rise of air temperature favoured both, the growth of cranberry vertical shoots and the flying-out of D. oxycoccana. The largest number of damaged apical buds with eggs, larvae 1st – 3rd stages and pupae was determined during the first ten-day period of July, at AET + 1066°C, influenced by maximum air temperature and amount of precipitation in the previous vegetation period. Due to the reduction of temperature at the end of July and beginning of August, at AET + 1755°C, generative buds formed on the undamaged apical shoots, while egging of D. oxycoccana did not occur and larvae migrated to the topsoil for pupation and dormancy diapauses.
