Trade Unions and their role in contemporary society | Arodbiedrības un to nozīme mūsdienu sabiedrībā

The aim of the article is to analyse the models of trade unions, the activities and development trends of trade unions in the European Union countries, including Latvia, to give an outline of the situation and to draw conclusions on the significance of trade unions today. The paper also attempts to identify the factors that have been influencing the development of trade unions as social partners in decision-making processes. The influence of trade unions is changing with the social and economic processes. The framework of the study is the EU concept of involvement of trade unions in social dialogue and social partnership. The authors describe the theoretical basis of the study and illustrate distinctive trends that stem from the theories concerning the research subject. Authors also give recommendations and draw conclusions on the operation of trade unions as social partners in the EU countries and in Latvia, especially during the financial and economic crisis of 2008–2010, and include data obtained in a survey designed by the authors.

Raksta mērķis ir analizēt arodbiedrību modeļus, darbību un attīstības tendences Eiropas valstīs, tai skaitā Latvijā, novērtēt pašreizējo situāciju un izdarīt secinājumus par arodbiedrību nozīmi un to nepieciešamību šodien, kā arī izvērtēt, kādi faktori ir ietekmējuši un turpina ietekmēt arodbiedrību kā sociālā partnera attīstību. Arodbiedrību ietekme sociālo un ekonomisko procesu attīstībā mainās, un to ietekmējošos faktorus autori ir atspoguļojuši šajā rakstā. Autori pētījumā sniedz pārskatu par teorētisko pamatu, akcentē noteiktas tendences, kas izriet no teorijām par pētījuma objektu, un izsaka priekšlikumus. Autori ir izdarījuši secinājumus par arodbiedrību kā sociālo partneru darbību Eiropas Savienības valstīs un Latvijā, atsevišķi analizējot arodbiedrību raksturu finanšu un ekonomiskās krīzes laikā no 2008. līdz 2010. gadam un iekļaujot analītiskos datus, kas iegūti, pamatojoties uz autoru izstrādāto aptauju un tajā iegūtajiem rezultātiem.
