Hot press drying was used on oil palm trunks to explore the potential of this method in order to upgrade the trunks by making them more stable dimensionally. The results showed that 25 mm thick oil palm trunk slabs from 23 year old stands could be dried to a moisture content of about 12% with minimum degradation. Depending on the location within the trunk from which the samples were taken, the density increase, after treatment, varies with the initial density. Strength properties were also determined in relation to pressing time and temperature.
