Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB) was involved in two main projects in the CFC/ICCO/IPGRI International Cocoa Project namely, "Cocoa Germplasm Utilization and Conservation; a Global Approach (1998-2003) and "Cocoa Productivity and Quality Improvement; a Participatory Approach (2004-2009). The overall objective of the projects to develop and distribute improved cocoa varieties with good quality and sustainable productivity to the smallholders. Several progeny trials and clonal trial with specific objectives were established. From the observation and data collected, several out-standing clones and hybrids were identified in term of yield, bean quality and diseases tolerance. Further evaluation on the materials have been carried out in the current project for validation before these materials are disseminated to the farmers.
