Analysis of the gaseous atmosphere in the flasks with medium revealed that the black rubber stoppers liberated 100 times more ethylene during sterilization than those of red rubber. When ethylene sorbent was added into the flasks the ethylene level decreased conspicuously but the level of ethane increased. Changes in the content of hydrocarbons as depended on the level of growth regulators in nutrient media were studied. Callus on the medium free of growth regulators produced a low level of hydrocarbons and its growth activity was small. When the medium was supplemented with 0.5 mg.l-1 BA, 0.02 mg.l-1 NAA, 0.1 mg.l-1 GA, the ethylene production increased highly significant, as well as the callus weight was higher after two-month cultivation. When the explants were cultivated in the dark, the ethylene production increased again by an addition of BA but only by a half of the values estimated in the light.
