A research to study the correct proportion and species of forage for ruminant was conducted in East Java (Indonesia), in 3 observation areas, i.e. Gerbo (GB) with altitude of 650 m, Parerejo (PR) alt: 350 m, and Pakuniran (PK) alt: 10 m. Data was collected by direct observation on the proportion and forage species given to the ruminant, both in stable and in grazing area. For the stabled ruminant, the data were obtained by direct counting on the proportion of forage at the observation stable in percentage. The number of stable was 30. For the grazing ruminant, the data was obtained by counting the forage proportion in the grazing area, using the Mannetje method. Results showed that the best proportion of forage was found in GB, considering the utilization of agricultural waste, which was at the lowest level (2.85) compared with those of PR (35.01) and PK (35.56). Utilization of legumes in forage was also highest in GB (14.59) compared to those of PR (12.19) and PK (0.75). The second best forage proportion was found in PR. The greatest number of forage species was found in GB (40 species), compared to those found in PR (37 species) and PK (34 species).
