Influence of additional crop space and nitrogen on yield and quality of sugar beet cultivars under conditions of rhizomania infection. [An abridged part of the doctoral dissertation].

Skrbic K.
The presented investigations were aimed at establishing the influence of three different plant densities in combination with different nitrogen fertilizer doses and cultivars on sugar beet root yields and quality in rhizomania infected soils. Rhizomania caused sugar and alpha-amino nitrogen content reduction, but also resulted in increased potassium and particularly sodium quantities. The highest crystal sugar yield, as the most important parameter for the assessment of individual sugar beet cultivars and treatments studied, was recorded in the case of the greatest plant density and with the application of smaller nitrogen fertilizer amounts. In the presented investigations best characteristics were featured by the tolerant Rizor - 3 and Formula cultivars.
