Effect of pruning severity on the growth and development of Roumi Red grapevines under Sharkia governorate conditions [Egypt].
1985
Tewfik A.A.
A pruning trial with four different severities (30+6, 30+8, 30+10 and 30+12), i.e. to leave 30 buds for the first 250 gms. of removed prunings plus 6, 8, 10 and 12 buds for each additional 100 gms., such treatments were conducted with the Roumi Red grapevines during the seasons of 1981/82 and 1982.83. The total yield, number and weight of bunches, number of berries per bunch, T.S.S., acidity, and T.S.S./ acid ratio were recorded. The total yield (1981/82+ 1982/83) of the 30+6 treatment was significantly lower than the other three treatments, which showed no differences among themselves. It is suggested to follow the pruning severity of 30+8 as it resulted in the most balanced yield in both seasons. The tested treatments revealed no significant differences concerning fruit quality, except for the TSS/ acid ratio which increased with pruning severity.
