A comparison of progress among 3 recurrent selection methods in corn (Zea mays L.) has been analyzed by using a regression model proposed by Eberhart (1964). The data used was taken from a field experiment conducted in Citayam (West Java, Indonesia) during wet season 1986. The experiment was made under two environmental conditions, i.e., low and high plant densities. Under each condition 19 populations, consisting of one base population and combinations of 3 methods of selection and 6 cycles of population were tested using randomized block design replicated 9 times. Results indicated that between the two plant densities there was a highly significant difference in the mean yield. Up to 6 cycles of population the progress were still linear and between the three methods tested there were no significant differences. The progress from selection in low and high plant density were - 0.0846 and - 0.1434 ton/ha, respectively. Compared to the commonly used method there was no difference in conclusions. It was also found that calculation of the model by using multiple regression was convenient.
