This study was conducted to establish the marginal regions for safty-cultivation in non-astringent persimmons. The present conditions of cultivation were summarized, freezing injuries after 1977's and 1981's severe cold were observed, and meteorological data of cultivating areas were compared. Non-astringent persimmons were cultivated on about 9,500 ha at 119 regions in 1987, where produced 40,176 M/T per year and 422.8 Kg per 10a. Cultivating areas by tree age were composed of below 5 years 45.2 %, between 6 to 10 years 34.0 %, between 11 to 15 years 14.6 %, and over 16 years 6.2 %, respectively. Cultivating regions were mostly distributed below the isothermal line of annual mean air temperature 12deg C, however, the orchards over 100ha were distributed below the isothermal line of annual mean air temperature 13deg C. Freezing injuries of leaf and flower buds revealed 10 % at -10deg C, 75 % at -17deg C, and 100 % at -20deg C, respectively. Zirou and zenzimaru cultivars were the relative freeze resistant ones. Adult trees were more freeze resistant than young trees. Freeze resistances were the most in two-year-old branch, the next in bearing branch, and poorest in secondary and sprouting branches. Freezing injuries were low at clay loam, loam, coarse sand, and sandy loam, in that order, and lower at hilly land rather than plain land.
