A high degree of success in veneer grafting in mango ranging from 85% to 95% was obtained during the period from mid-April to mid-August with the highest success rate in mid-May in the Mymensingh region of Bangladesh in the year 1990. The stock internodes of 3 to 9 months old and the scion of 1 to 2 months old, depending upon the growth phases at different times of the year, showed successful graft union, although comparatively more mature stem appeared to give higher success rates than those of younger stems. Microscopic observation showed that the stock and scion tissues with the least possible woods for effective graft union is quicker than those with thicker woods in the stem and indicates that grafting between younger partners are desirable.
