Relations between several properties of two-rowed and multi-rowed barley, which can have an effect on the grain yield, have been studied (tiller length, the length of the lower tiller internode, number of spikes per plant, grain yield per spike and grain yield per plant). Of the tested properties, only the number of fertile tillers per plant and the grain yield per spike were in a significant, positive relation with the grain yield per plant, but there was a significant difference between the two-rowed and multi-rowed with regard to the smaller positive effect of the grain yield per spike on the grain yield per plant of the multi-rowed barley. A high direct effect of the number of fertile tillers and an intermediate direct effect of the grain yield per spike , on the grain yield per plant, were found in two-rowed barley.
