Combining ability in ten tetraploid multigerm pollinators of sugar beet belonging to high root yielding, high sugar content and normal sugar type has been studied. The investigated traits of F1-triploid monogerm experimental hybrids were as follows: root sugar content, root mass, content of alpha-amino nitrogen, K and Na; calculations were made for root yield, quotient of thick (syrup sugar) juice, corrected sugar, and yield of crystal sugar. The pollinators of high sugar content showed best combining ability (except for root yield). By correlation analysis it has been found that there is a strong negative effect of Na and alpha-amino nitrogen content on corrected sugar and yield of crystal sugar (for Na -0.75 and -0.61; for alpha-amino nitrogen -0.77 and -0.72).
