A total of 528 accessions have been assembled and evaluated for genetic variability by using the "Descriptors for Winged Bean" prepared by the International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR). Experimental results revealed that there were a great deal of variation, viz. flower colour varied from white to deep purplish red, seed colour from cream to black, number of seed per pod from 5 to 8, 100 seed weight from 16.2 to 46.0 g, shelling percentage from 30.4 to 68.4%, days to first flower from 54 to 128, dry seed weight from 3 to 470 kg/rai, and fresh tuber weight from 0-870 kg/rai. Experimental results further showed that the seed colour was closely correlated with flower colour. The majority of accessions had green stem, deltoid leaflet, semi flat pod, smooth pod surface, and round seed.
