Azolla pinnata was inoculated at 200 g/sq m as a dual crop with rice on the seventh day after transplantation. The treatments used in the experiment were: control, Azolla as dual crop (DC), 60 kg N/ha as urea, Azolla DC + 60 kg N/ha, Azolla DC + gypsum 1 t/ha + 60 kg N/ha, gypsum + 60 kg N/ha, lime + 60 kg N/ha, and Azolla DC + gypsum + lime + 60 kg N/ha. The results show that inoculation of Azolla alone as a dual crop with rice increased the yield component of rice considerably. Both gypsum and lime application, separately or together, showed favourable effects on grain yield. Among the treatments, application of gypsum with 60 kg N/ha and Azolla recorded the highest yield components and grain yield of rice. The N content of the plant samples also was the highest with gypsum and Azolla applied.
