The disposition of sulfamethoxydiazine was studied in buffalo following the intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous drug administration. The drug was administered as 20% solution of sulfamethoxydiazine (BAYRENA) at the dosage of 30 mg/kg. The blood samples were collected from jugular vein via the cannula. The plasma concentrations of the drug and acetyl metabolite were analysed. The average plasma concentrations of sulfamethoxydizine obtained following the administration of the drug to buffalo, were plotted on semilogarithmic and cartesian grids. Following intravenous administration of sulfamethoxydiazine, minimum effective concentrations of the drug were maintained for at least 4 hours. The concentrations obtained with the direct and total method of Bratton Marshall were in close agreement which indicated that no fraction of the total sulfonamides present in plasma was acetyl sulfamethoxydiazine. Most of the drug was excreted from the body within 72 hours. The drug was incompletely absorb following intramuscular and subcutaneous administration. The bioavailability following intramuscular and subcutaneous administration were 65.20% and 56.76%, respectively.
