Over 1974 - 1984 an experiment with spring barley was conducted with the objective of observing the effect of straw utilization in combination with increased rates of fertilizer. Two different techniques of seed-bed preparation were used, namely the traditional and minimum tillage. The results obtained documented that the traditional tillage is more advantageous than the minimum treatment, which reflected in increased values of the basic yield components, the number of years, the number grains per ear, and in 1000 kernel weight, the respective increases being 4.57 per cent, 1.22 per cent, and 1.44 per cent. In the former method of tillage the application of 60 kg N per ha proved to be most advantageous, while in the latter the amount of 90 kg N per ha was found best.
