The objective of this research was to evaluate the incidence of a stabilized polyethylene and a thermic stabilized polyethylene, on the vegetative and reproductive development of two sweet pepper hybrids and standard variety. A completely randomized design arranged in a 2x3 factorial (2 polyethylene types and 3 sweet pepper varieties), with 20 replicates was used. The most relevant results were: - The thermic polyethylene affected positively the height, flowering and fructification of sweet pepper plants, compared to those that grow under a stabilized polyethylene. - The thermic polyethylene allowed an early sweet pepper production, and increased the number and average weight of the fruit. - Total fruit production and the average weight of fruit were greatest for those grown under thermic polyethylene. - The types of polyethylene had no effect on the number of red fruit, but their mean weight was highest for plants cultivated under thermic polyethylene. - Waste losses were less in the thermic polyethylene treatment in relation to the stabilized polyethylene. -According to these results and considering the climatic conditions of the area, the use of thermic polyethylene for sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum var grosum) production is highly recommended.
