An investigation was carried out into 680 milk probes, of them 563 probes from state farms and 117 probes from private farms. In the probes the following parameters in 1 cm3 were determined: (1) the total number of bacteria, (2) the coli titer, (3) the total number of staphylococci, (5) the number of streptococci, (6) psychrophilic staphylococci, (7) the number of somatic cells. As result of the investigation it became clear that on the basis of colititer 19.6 per cent of good quality milk was produced on private farms than on state farms. In milk produced on state farms 172 per cent more pathogenic staphylococci were found than that on private farms. According to the content of psychrophilic bacteria 22.5 per cent more milk of good quality was produced on private farms than on state farms. According to the content of somatic cells 76,9 per cent of milk produced on private farms and 91,4 per cent of milk produced on state farms belonged to the highest quality class.
