Three applications of SADH and Chlormequat at the concentrations of 2,500 and 5,000 ppm, ethrel at the concentrations of 250 and 500 ppm were applied weekly as foliar spray and soil drench to potted 'Sugar Daddy' petunia when the plants were 44, 51 and 58 days old. Chlormequat applied as foliar spray and soil drench had no effect on the growth of petunia. SADH applied as soil drench had no effect, whereas foliar spray decreased both plant height and diameter. Regardless of the methods of application, application time and concentrations, ethrel decreased plant height and diameter but increased the number of lateral branches when applied at a later age. Ethrel did not influence quality and size of flowers. Desirable height, more lateral branches and number of flowers together with compact plant were achieved by the use of 250 ppm ethrel either foliar spray or soil drench at 58 days old.
