Mycological and toxicological contamination of maize corn immediately after harvest and the effect of different concentration of CO2 on maize grain during storage were studied. Maize kernels were strongly contaminated by Aspergillus after harvest. The occurrence of aflatoxin B1 (0.53 ng.kg-1) was observed. The decrease of nitrogenous substances and fat content and the increase of fibre content were found. The occurrence of Aspergillus flavus and the level of aflatoxin B1, that reached 1.63 ng.kg-1 in the 3rd variant, was recorded. CO2 atmosphere stabilized the growth of the fungus and retarded the synthesis of mycotoxins.
