Growth retardants, Alar and Cycocel at the rate of 1500 and 3000 ppm, alone and in combination were applied to produce dwarf and compact potted poinsettia plants (Euphorbia pulcherrima) during 1991-92 at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Minimum plant height (23.8 cm) was observed with a combination of both chemicals at the rate of 3000 ppm against maximum (50 cm) in control. Number of branches per plant was higher (17) with Alar at the rate of 1500 ppm but Cycocel at the rate of 1500 ppm produced more number of leaves (72) per plant. Leaf size was reduced with growth retardants. Alar and Cycocel at the rate of 1500 ppm increased duration as well as number of bracts, diameter and leaflets per bract as compared with control. Overall best results were obtained with Alar and Cycocel at the rate of 1500 ppm alone.
