'Khag Dam' papaya seedlings planted in various media were studied for germination, growth rate and survival numbers. The experiment consisted of five different kinds of media, i.e., sand, sand and charcoal husk (1:1), sand and coconut dusk (1:1), sand and wood shavings (1:1) and sand and rice hull (1:1). Each media was killed in two sets of flats; one with 3-hour steam sterilization at 250 degrees Fahrenheit and the other without steam sterilization. The germination percentage was not significantly different among various media whether sterilization or not. Their growth rates and survival of seedlings were statistically different among the media. The sterilized media of sand and mixture of sand and charcoal husk gave the best seedlings growth rate. Sterilized sand yielded the highest percentage survival of seedlings.
