Vita Antonio
This study was carried out in part of the area of the Illapel commune. Its objective was to determine the possibility of both natural and artificial regeneration utilizing seeds of Quillay (Quillaja saponaria, Mol.). In order to develop the project, natural regeneration and forestation essays were established. In the first case, the effect of the job over the soil and the effect of the side vegetation over the new blades were assessed. In the second case, direct seeding and plantation (with three different types of plants) were analyzed. The main conclusions indicate, quite evidently, that natural regeneration was favoured as a result of the protection of shrubs and rocks present on the site; on the other hand, at vertical protection of the adult Quillay tree's crowns or at open spaces, the quantity of plants regenerated was scarce. Other result indicated that there was not any variation due to the job over the soil. Besides, there were not good results for the forestation essays by direct seeding; however, the plantation performed with larger size of plants gave quite positive results.
