Wheat developments [varieties, South Australia]. [Conference paper].
1989
Heard T.G.
The quality of the South Australian crop was excellent in terms of protein content. Screenings, weed seeds and test weights were all at acceptable levels. Meteor was the highest yielding of the varieties trialled. The incorporation of disease resistance is the major thrust in local wheat breeding programmes. Only 4 new wheat varieties were registered in Australia in 1988. Wilgoyne, Kelalac, Miskle and Molineux. The major wheat varieties grown in South Australia show an on-going reduction in the area sown to Halberd and Warigal and the increase in the area of Spear-Dagger and more recently Machete.
