The research was conducted to determine the effect of heavy metal and pesticides wastes to fisheries resources in the Mahakam river, East Kalimantan. The method used in study were observation, interview and analysis of river water and fish using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) for heavy metals and the GAS Chromatography (GC) for pesticides analysis. Heavy metals contents (Cd, Cu, Zn and Fe) of river water have been over the threshold limits, except for the Pb. However, heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn) of fish flesh were still under the threshold limits, except for Hg. Pesticides analysis of fish flesh showed a positive one either samples from upstream or downstream. The propoxus (45.82 x 10 at the power of -3 ppm), which had one brand name "Baygon" showed almost at the same level as the threshold limit (50 x 10 at the power of -3 ppm), overmore, the monochrotofos of freshwater prawn (26.7 x 10 at the power of -3 ppm). Based on interview fishermen, the catch had been decreasing; heavy metals and pesticides were probably one of the causes of the destruction of habitats and environment, which in turn, resulted in decrease of the catch.
