Usability of Nmin method in fertilization advisory and to control the impact of N fertilizers on soil medium was discussed. Techniques of soil sampling, sample preparation and analyses for ammonium- and nitrate N were presented. Soil nitrogen equivalents of Nmin, calculated on the basis of field experiments, ranged within 0.8-1.0 for winter cereals and within 0.5-0.7 for spring cereal. Nmin content in soil in the early spring and nitrogen equivalent are the input data to calculate the first spring rate of N fertilizers for cereals. Nmin in soil was also tested after crop harvest in 4-year rotation experiment at use of different rates of farmyard manure and N fertilizers.
