Radiation effects on sweet sorghum varieties namely Ramada, Roma, Rio, Wray and Keller were studied. Seeds were irradiated with gamma radiation of 0, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 gray. Agronomic character changes and chromosomal aberrations were observed. Results showed that the LD50 of Ramada, Roma, Rio, Wray and Keller were 340, 320, 320, 315 and 250 gray respectively. The growth rate was reduced as the irradiation dose was increased and the correlation between the two was proved to be sigmoid curve. The chromosome number of 5 varieties of sweet sorghum was 2n = 20. Gamma radiation did not affect the mitotic index. Bridged and fragmented chromosomes were also recorded in cytological analysis of mitotic behavior after irradiation Keller had the highest aberration and Ramada had the lowest aberration.
