Seeds collected from Amphoe Omkoi, Chiengmai province, were subjected to acute gamma-irradiation from a Cs137 source, with dose rate of 952.91 rads/min. Right before irradiation, moisture content of seeds was 10.12 per cent. Seeds were treated with 9 different doses: 0, 0.5, 1.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 16.0 K-rads, respectively. Germination tests of the 9 treatments of irradiated seeds were conducted with 4 replication with 100 seeds and in 3 different media: agar, absorbent paper and sand. Temperature control was set at 25 deg centigrade both during the day and night and light duration was set for 12 hours in order to cope with the natural condition of the tropical zone. Effects of gamma radiation of merkus pine in relation to germination, germination patterns, mortality, were observed. Growth and seedlings morphology after germination up to 3 months were recorded at seven days interval. The results of the study indicated that merkus pine seeds germinated earlier in agar than on absorbent papers or sand.
