The level of organochlorine pesticide residues of 54 samples of human milk was determined utilizing gas liquid chromatography. The samples were collected from two communities: Lanco and San Jose de la Mariquina between August and December of 1989. The effect of the donors'age and the number of lactation on the organochlorine contents of human milk were studied. The pesticides found in human milk samples, its average value (indicated in ppm, fat basis) and sample percentages exceeding the Maximun Residue Limits were as follows: Heptachlor + Heptachlor epoxide (1,464): 67,0%; Total DDT (3,027): 46,3 %; Aldrine + Dieldrine (0,524): 41,0%; (Alpha + Beta)-HCH (0,623): 41,0%; Lindane (0,443): 35,2%; HCB (0,356): 32,0%. No relation was found between the organochlorine contents and the donors'age, neither between number of lactations and the pesticide level.
